Biography
Education and Early Career
Eric Dereumaux graduated from ICART (1994–1996), specializing in cultural management and the art market. In 2014, he earned an MBA focused on the international art market.
He began his career with the itinerant gallery Nomade (1994–1995), then established himself as a pioneer in digital art by co-founding ARTCOM (1995–2002), the first online art distribution platform, followed by ARTCOMProd, ARTCOMEdu, and especially ARTCOMNews, the first contemporary art review on the Internet. He also published a CD-Rom of which he was the author, Contemporary French Art (1999), supported by the French Ministry of Culture.
Gallerist
In 2002, he co-founded the contemporary art gallery RX in Paris, in the Matignon district. The gallery expanded in 2011 into the former Joliot-Curie laboratory in Ivry-sur-Seine (1,500 m²), before opening a 640 m² space in the Marais in 2016.
Between 2010 and 2016, he also developed the Générateur RX, an experimental annex dedicated to international residencies, sculpture trails, and in situ productions.
In 2021, RX partnered with New York’s SLAG Gallery to create RX&SLAG, an international platform representing 25 international artists - both emerging and established - as well as three estates.
The gallery has represented artists such as El Anatsui, Lee Bae, Pascal Convert, Fabrice Hyber, Françoise Pétrovitch, and the estate of Kim Guiline. In 2024–2025, Eric Dereumaux supervised the donation of works by Hermann Nitsch and Alain Kirili to the Centre Pompidou.
Contemporary Photography
Eric Dereumaux has played an active role in contemporary photography. He has participated in twelve editions of Paris Photo, notably representing international photographers such as Elger Esser, Raymond Depardon, and Bae Bien-U.
Cultural Engagements
With over twenty years of artistic relations with South Korea, Eric Dereumaux is recognized as an expert on contemporary Korean art.
His gallery took part in the France-Korea Year (2015), collaborating with several French institutions, including the Musée d’Art Moderne de Saint-Étienne and the Musée Guimet, and working with four Korean artists from three generations: Kim Guiline, Bae Bien-U, Lee Bae, and HK Kwon. He initiated the Lee Bae retrospective at the Fondation Maeght (2018) and the Bae Bien-U exhibition at the Fondation Wilmotte (2022) in Venice. In 2025, the publisher Skira commissioned him to write the preface to the monograph devoted to the historical artist Ha Indoo (1930–1989).
Regarding Africa, Eric Dereumaux founded the PARITANA Prize (2015) in Madagascar, in partnership with the Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris. He was also a driving force behind the creation of the Fondation H, which he advised for five years (2016–2020), contributing to the opening of a space in Paris and later a museum in Antananarivo. The foundation supported the Musée du Quai Branly – Jacques Chirac in Paris (2018) and the Madagascar Pavilion at the Venice Biennale (2019).
In 2018, he contributed to the Africa2020 program of the Centre des Monuments Nationaux, with exhibitions by El Anatsui and Joël Andrianomearisoa.
